Attention All Georgetown Employees:

The Company has notified the Union that due to the continued deterioration of the wire market the Georgetown plant won't reopen this year and probably won't reopen until 2011.  The Company indicated that the steady increase in scrap prices coupled with scrap being sent overseas is compounding the problem.  I will keep the membership updated when I receive further information about the status of our plant.

The South Carolina Unemployment office will be mailing out notices to inform everyone that a meeting will be held at the Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) on Saturday July 18th, 2009.  There will be 3 sessions that day so please attend the time scheduled for you on July 18.  If you arent able to attend this session please contact them as soon as you can so other arrangements can be made.

I would like for the membership to know that when the plant is idled temporarily on July 12th, 2009 they should direct any and all questions they may have to me at 843-655-1130, Ed Green- Vice President, at 843-461-6820, or Barry Howard- Unit Griever at 843-461-6818.  It is very important that the union is notified first with any issue that you may have pertaining to the Labor Contract or Benefits as well.  The union will also handle all of the Steelworkers Pension Trust (SPT) issues.  The union will continue to handle any Sub pay and unemployment questions you may have as well. Based on your Seniority you will still have insurance coverage while you are laid off.  Please let the union know if you should encounter problems with your insurance while you’re laid off.

As a reminder please know that you shall pre-certify any hospital stay prior to being admitted!!!  Failure to do so will result in your hospital stay being denied for payment.  In case of an emergency you have up to 24 hours to call the insurance company to notify them about the emergency.

I will also be updating the President’s blog on a regular basis with any information the union is presented that affects the membership.

In Solidarity,

James
